Is Ghost of Tsushima PS4 exclusive

Yes, Ghost of Tsushima is a PlayStation 4 exclusive. It was revealed in 2017 by Sucker Punch Productions, a first-party studio known for developing Playstation-exclusive games. Its release date is set for June 26, 2020, and it will be available exclusively for PlayStation consoles, specifically the PS4.

Xbox One and PC players may be bummed to learn they can’t play Ghost of Tsushima, but it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. The team at Sucker Punch has been a first-party studio since 2011, having been purchased by Sony shortly after the release of inFamous 2. Of course, the studio has been developing exclusively for PlayStation consoles since 2002 with the release of Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus.

Beyond that, Ghost of Tsushima is only the fourth new IP to come out of the studio in its 21 years of business. The first was Rocket: Robot on Wheels for the Nintendo 64, followed by the three Sly Cooper games for the PlayStation 2. inFamous came about during the PlayStation 3 era, and continued on to the PS4 days with Second Son and First Light.

For those keeping track, Ghost of Tsushima will be the studio’s first new game since August of 2014. The game hasn’t been in development that long, however: First word of its development was revealed in December of 2015, while the game was formally revealed at Paris Games Week in 2017.

While Ghost of Tsushima will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive at launch, it’s possible the game may also release for the PlayStation 5. Either way, it’s still a PlayStation exclusive — if PC or Xbox One players want to check it out, they’ll have to pick up a PlayStation.
