Call of Duty: Warzone will be available as a free-to-play game for as long as the game is active. Activision has not mentioned any plans to charge players for it in the future. As such, Warzone will likely remain free-to-play for a very long time.

As battle royale games go, this seems to be the industry-standard course of action. Many games in the genre are free-to-play, including Fortnite: Battle Royale, Apex Legends, and even CS:GO‘s Danger Zone. Fortnite fans will also recall that the game originally launched as a paid title with Fortnite: Save the World before Fortnite: Battle Royale was released for free.

Releasing Warzone as a free-to-play game also marks a new direction for the team at Activision. Every single past Call of Duty game launched as a paid experience, but Warzone marks the very first time a series entry has been released for free. Granted, this isn’t exactly a surprising move, as a number of new releases have been adopting the games-as-service model, and we have no reason to think Warzone will be any different.

Don’t worry: Call of Duty: Warzone will remain free-to-play for a long time, probably forever. If there was any plan to transition to a paid experience, we likely would have heard about it by now. Modern Warfare still requires players to pay for the experience, but the new battle royale spinoff can be enjoyed without spending a dime.
