Can you time travel backwards in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

If you’ve been time traveling in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it’s very possible that you’ve gone too far ahead, flying through the months like Dr. Who. If you regret going too far, perhaps because of the new seasonal event, you might now be wondering: “can you time travel backwards in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?” Thankfully, we’ve already tried it! Here’s what you need to know about setting the time and date backwards.

What happens when I time travel backwards in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

When you time travel backwards in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, nothing really changes aside from the date and a few weeds/bugs spawning. It’s just like you’re starting a new day, with Tom Nook/Isabelle providing news.

It’s important to note that time traveling backwards won’t reverse any “future actions.” So if you accidentally sold a load of iron nuggets on March 23, you can’t go back to March 22 and find them still in your inventory. It doesn’t work that way.

The good news is that you skipping time hasn’t broken the game. It’s just as though you’ve started a new day, only with a few weeds and/or bugs to deal with. This means that you can go ahead and enjoy the seasonal content that will be implemented via a patch.

If you’re worried about being banned for time skipping, you can read our guide on time travel bans here. We explain what the developers think of time travel and whether you should do it.
