There is a lot to get on with in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, from crafting new tools, plucking weeds, and building new areas such as Blathers’ museum to explore. In this guide, though, we’ll let you in on how to wish on a star in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Read on to discover when shooting stars appear in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and why you should be wishing on them. Find out how to find Star Fragments and craft the Magic Wand below, too.
How to wish on a star in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Shooting stars will appear occasionally at night time in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Shooting stars don’t appear every day, mind. Isabelle will let you in on when shooting stars appear when you start a fresh day, so you’ll know exactly when they should appear. The shooting stars only appear when you are told that they will. Between 7 pm and 4 am you’ll have the chance to see and wish upon these shooting stars that Isabelle has told you about. Press A to wish upon a shooting star in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as long as you aren’t holding anything, that is.

Use the steps below to discover how to wish on a star in Animal Crossing: New Horizons:
- Wait until Isabelle’s weather report mentions shooting stars
- Shooting stars appear between 7 pm and 4 am that same night
- When you see or hear the faint noise of a shooting star, look up into the night sky (tilt your right analog stick upwards)
- Make sure you’re not holding anything and press the A button to wish upon the shooting star
Shooting stars tend to appear in pairs, at least. If you fail to wish upon the first star, there should be another one soon enough. Wishing upon shooting stars will make Star Fragments appear, which are important crafting materials, especially if you want the Magic Wand.
How to find Animal Crossing: New Horizons Star Fragments
As stated above, how to get Star Fragments in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is as simple as wishing upon a shooting star. After wishing on a star, Star Fragments will appear washed up on the beaches of your island. Star Fragments are a valuable resource and you’ll need them to craft a nifty Magic Wand and other impressive items. They might well fetch a pretty Bell or two, too.
Simply head to the beaches on your island after wishing on stars the night before. Combe the beaches to find any Star Fragments that have washed up on your shores. There are three kinds of Star Fragments, each one rarer than the last:
- Star Fragments
- Large Star Fragments
- Zodiac Star Fragments, which should appear during the following time periods, after you’ve crafted the Star Wand:
- Aquarius (January 20-February 18)
- Pisces (February 19-March 20)
- Aries (March 21-April 19)
- Taurus (April 20-May 20)
- Gemini (May 21-June 20)
- Cancer (June 21-July 22)
- Leo (July 23-August 22)
- Virgo (August 23-September 22)
- Libra (September 23-October 22)
- Scorpio (October 23-November 21)
- Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)
- Capricorn (December 22-January 19)
How to craft the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Magic Wand (Star Wand)
To craft the Star Wand in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you’ll first need to get the recipe from Celeste (Blathers’ little sister). Celeste only appears at night (after sunset). Celeste should appear on nights when special things are happening such as Full Moons and Meteor Showers (you should be told if these events are happening when you begin a new day). Speak to Celeste when you spot her walking along your island and she’ll give you Star Fragment crafting recipes, such as the Star Wand.
The Star Wand recipe is as follows:
- One Large Star Fragment
- Three Star Fragments
Once you have crafted your Magic Wand, you will be able to use it to store and swap between eight outfit sets whenever it suits you. There are a few different Star Fragment recipes to unlock and craft, remember to speak to Celeste during Meteor Showers to get hold of them.
