Final Fantasy 7 Remake turn-based battles

How to enable Final Fantasy 7 Remake turn-based battles

While Final Fantasy 7 Remake does a great job in revamping many aspects of the original game, including graphics, music, and additional lore, the overhauled combat may cause frustration for some fans. Thankfully, for those yearning for Final Fantasy 7 Remake turn-based combat, we’ve got good news. Here’s how to enable turn-based combat in FF7 Remake.

How to turn on Final Fantasy 7 Remake turn-based combat

To enable turn-based combat in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, you’re going to have to select the Classic difficulty. This will slow down battles to a turn-based pace, allowing you to take the time to select moves in a more relaxed manner.

Here’s how you enable turn-based combat in Final Fantasy 7 Remake:

  • If starting a new game, select the “Classic” difficulty.
  • If you have already started the game on a different difficulty, head to the Settings menu and change the difficulty to “Classic.”

Now enter a battle and you’ll get to enjoy the turn-based combat in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Admittedly, this isn’t quite the same as the original FF7 or other purely turn-based Final Fantasy games like FFX. Cloud and his teammates carry out basic attacks and defend automatically, with the player taking control when the ATB fills. This means that the player can focus solely on the more powerful abilities, while the AI does all the work with normal attacks and blocking.

One thing to note with the turn-based mode is that changing to Classic also changes the game to the Easy difficulty. This means that enemies will pose less of a challenge.

At the time of writing, it’s not yet possible to enjoy both turn-based and the Normal/Hard difficulties.
