With all of the current conventions getting postponed, it’s not hard to wonder if BlizzCon 2020 is canceled. After all, it wouldn’t be outlandish for this event with thousands of people to get pushed or canned. So is BlizzCon 2020 canceled?
Is BlizzCon 2020 canceled?
As of right now, BlizzCon 2020 is not canceled. However, Blizzard said it was keeping an eye on the situation. In a recent post on the official Blizzard website, Executive Producer of BlizzCon Saralyn Smith said that no decisions have been made to stop the event that would presumably happen in early November.
“While we’re all hopeful things will look better later in the year, the bottom line is that at this point it’s too early to know whether BlizzCon 2020 will be feasible,” she said. “The health of our community, employees, and everyone who helps with the show is our top consideration. It might be a few months before we know for certain if or how we’ll proceed, but as soon as we have a meaningful update, we’ll share it.”

This seems entirely contingent on whether or not this all clears up in the next few months. But despite that uncertainty, she talked about about having to set up the show in some capacity, despite the different working conditions from the team. She even might have been hinting at some sort of digital event, granted that the team was “considering a range of scenarios and possibilities, not just in terms of the show, but also regarding what the experience would be for you.”
Whatever the scenario, Smith stated that Blizzard will provide updates as soon as possible with as much clarity as they can provide since they are playing it by ear. This will undoubtedly help the thousands that travel across the globe and country to come to this annual Blizzard event.
