Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 Release Date | When is FF7 Remake Episode 2 coming out?

Even though the first installment has just come out, it’s hard not to wonder what the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 release date is. The game is, after all, going to be split up in a few chunks. And, if this first one is any indication, they aren’t going to match up with the PS1 discs either. Regardless of how they line up, when is Final Fantasy 7 Remake Episode 2 coming out?

Square Enix has not hinted at when the next installment of the FF7 Remake is coming out. We just know that Square is actively making it now, according to its director, Tetsuya Nomura.

“We’ve already begun working on the next one as well, but I’m confident that playing through this title will expand your expectations just like the world that extends beyond Midgar,” he said in a post on Square’s website in November 2019.

It’s hard to tell when the next episode will release, given all the factors at play. The first “episode” took many years to make. Square Enix announced it at E3 2015 and it didn’t come out nearly five years later until April 2020. Given how Square didn’t show much of the game in 2015 and the following few years, it was likely very early in development near its announcement. The game also hit a little bit of a snag when Square decided to take it in house and away from developer Cyberconnect2 in 2018.

Five or so years seems like a long time, but the team had to logistically create everything from scratch. Sequels have something to work off of so Square won’t have to start from square one with Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2.

Square had a similar cycle with Final Fantasy 13. Development began in 2004 and the first part came out in 2009 and 2010 in Japan and then the rest of the world, respectively. 13-2 came out in 2012 and then Lightning Returns released in 2014. While these timelines shouldn’t be translated to the FF7 Remake because Square is Square, it does show a history of the company taking a bit to make the first entry, but then having shorter cycles for the next two follow-ups.
