Is Trump Shutting Down TikTok?

TikTok has risen to become one of the most popular apps of 2020, with users creating and sharing short videos to entertain one another. While a lot of people clearly love the app, some have the opposite opinion, wishing for the iOS and Android app to be pulled from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Who has the power to take down the seemingly unstoppable app? Well, perhaps the president of the United States can lay the smackdown. Here’s your answer to “Is Trump shutting down TikTok?”

Is President Donald Trump shutting down TikTok?

Is Trump Shutting Down TikTok

No, Trump is not shutting down TikTok. At least, he hasn’t publicly stated that he’s taking any type of action against the social media application. But who knows what is going on behind the scenes?

With TikTok allowing users to take soundbites and repurpose them with new footage, audio from several of Trump’s speeches and statements has been used to create memes. These memes can become very popular, with users sharing them and using the audio to create their own videos. Trending videos tend to snowball in popularity, with more and more users hopping on the latest hit, which of course means more and more views.

Despite many TikTok users taking Trump’s audio to make fun of the president, he hasn’t yet made any mention of the app. Though it’s certainly possible that he’s a user of the app himself, making his own meme dance videos in the privacy of his own home, it’s equally possible that he isn’t aware that TikTok exists. Of course, he might just not care about users repurposing his audio for comedic purposes, or maybe he enjoys it.

At the time of writing, we don’t yet know Trump’s stance on the TikTok app. All we know is that he hasn’t publicly stated any opinion about it.
