Riot Games’ free-to-play FPS Valorant is doing incredibly well for itself on PC. The game has aspirations of being an esport and is seemingly headed in the right direction, though introducing Valorant deathmatch and team deathmatch (TDM) modes could certainly help. Will there be Valorant deathmatch modes?
Throughout the closed beta and at launch, Valorant has remained a strictly objective-based multiplayer game. It seems like that might not be the case for much longer, however, if leaked game code and words from the mouth of a developer are anything to go by. Although no specific date is set, it looks like we’ll eventually be getting a Valorant team deathmatch mode at the very least.

Valorant leaker @ValorantLeaked took to Twitter in order to share some game code referencing a potential TDM mode. A portion of the string reads: “GameModes/TeamDeathmatch/TeamDeathmatchMode” in an indication that Riot is working to implement the classic TDM match type.

This aligns with a statement from Valorant dev and Twitch streamer Salvatore “Volcano” Garozzo. He responded to a question regarding deathmatch servers by saying that “the team is interested in having a warm-up/deathmatch style mode.” You can watch the clip here, in which Garozzo also notes that he “doesn’t know when that would be available.”
It seems likely that we’ll be getting a Valorant team deathmatch mode at some stage, which makes sense, considering the team-based gameplay structure. Still, if deathmatch modes were introduced as a type of “warm-up” — as indicated by Garozzo — then implementing free-for-all deathmatch might not be out of the question.
