Survival horror fans are getting amped up for the release of Resident Evil 8, better known as Resident Evil Village. The game was first teased at PlayStation’s PS5 reveal event, and we know it’s coming out for next-generation hardware. But is it coming to all platforms? Is Resident Evil 8 a PS5 exclusive, or will it eventually release for Xbox or PC?
Is Resident Evil 8 a PS5 exclusive?
No, Resident Evil 8 is not a PS5 exclusive. The developers at Capcom have confirmed that Resident Evil Village, the series’ eighth mainline installment, will release simultaneously for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam on May 7, 2021.

Many fans were left wondering if Resident Evil 8 (subtitled Village) is a PS5 exclusive following its debut at the recent PS5 reveal event and recent gameplay reveal stream. There, the PlayStation team highlighted some of the games coming to the platform’s next-generation hardware. But even though RE8 was first first revealed on the stream, the game is not exclusive to any particular platform.
This is not without precedent. After all, most of the Resident Evil games have been going multiplatform for several years. Even the series’ many remakes are now available across multiple platforms, including PC, PS4, Xbox One, and even the Nintendo Switch. With that in mind, it should be no surprise that RE8 will be released across a wide variety of hardware.
As its name implies, Resident Evil Village is set in a small village where all sorts of freaky stuff is happening. The village is sort of a stand-in for smaller locations like the classic Spencer Mansion, but we imagine being less cramped won’t make the experience any less tense. And, as shown in the PS5 reveal trailer featured above, the game also features new monsters and a revamped inventory system.
Worry not: Resident Evil 8 Village is not a PS5 exclusive. It will be available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
