Your Valorant username says a lot about you, so it’s wise to choose a good one. However, some players may have chosen poorly, either due to haste or a momentary lapse in judgment. If that’s happened to you, don’t worry: It’s still possible to change your name in Valorant. Here’s how the process works.
Valorant | How to change your Valorant name
To change your name in Valorant, you actually need to change your Riot Account name. Thankfully, the process is made simple through the Riot website. Just remember that in addition to changing your Valorant name, this process will also affect your handle in other Riot games like League of Legends.

Here’s how to change your name in Valorant using the Riot Account system:
- First, head to the official Riot website and sign in
- In the upper right, click on your existing username, then click settings
- In the Settings window, click on Riot ID
- Find the pen icon next to your name, then click on it
- Enter a new Riot ID, then click Submit to confirm your name change
It’s worth noting that you can only change your Riot ID every 30 days. With that in mind, it’s best to make sure you’re happy with your new Valorant name. If you change it to something you may eventually dislike, you’ll have to wait a full month before you can change it again.
You also won’t be able to choose a username that’s already in use. Riot had to revamp its account management system prior the launch of Valorant, and the new system does not allow for duplicates. More information about this can be found on the Riot Games support website.
After successfully changing your Riot ID, you’ll see that your Valorant name has been changed the next time you log in to the game. Hopefully you’re happy with your chosen display name, because you’re only allowed to change names once every 30 days.
