Apex Legends players now have a new way to earn Heirloom gear. Previously, Heirloom items were only given as a random drop when opening Apex Packs. Following a recent update, these items can now purchased using Heirloom Shards. Unfortunately, the game’s reward system still involves a fair amount of luck. How to get Heirloom Shards in Apex Legends
The only way to get Heirloom Shards in Apex Legends is by opening Apex Packs. Each pack has a chance to drop Heirloom Shards, and these shards can then be used to purchase any Heirloom item that you like.
Previously, players would open Apex Packs in the hope that they’d receive an Heirloom item. However, the items themselves were randomized, meaning players often got Heirloom gear they didn’t want. Following update version 1.31, the game now provides an identical chance to instead earn Heirloom Shards, which can be spent on any item you choose.
Swapping Heirloom items for Heirloom Shards is the only change in the Apex Legends rewards system. The chances of earning Heirloom Shards remains the same as it was with Heirloom gear.
What are the odds of getting Heirloom Shards?
You have a one in 500 chance of earning Heirloom Shards when opening Apex Packs. By all accounts, the odds are unaffected by how many packs you’ve opened; nothing causes the drop rate to increase. Thankfully, you are guaranteed to earn Heirloom Shards at least once for every 500 Apex Packs opened.
It’s worth remembering that you don’t have to open 500 packs to earn Shards; those are just the base odds. It’s entirely possible to earn Shards after unlocking your first few Apex Packs.
Thankfully, the Heirloom reward system in Apex Legends works largely the same as before. Simply open Apex Packs for a chance to earn Heirloom Shards that can be spent on any gear you like. You only have a one in 500 chance of Shards dropping, but you’re still guaranteed to get Shards at least once from every 500 Apex Packs.
