The Legend of Korra is coming to Netflix, and a release date has already been announced. Avatar: The Last Airbender hit Netflix in May and rejuvenated interest in the franchise. In August, fans can binge the sequel series.
Set 70 years after Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra follows the new Avatar as she learns how to harness newly-found powers. The story takes Korra across the world as she attempts to balance the four elements and bring peace to the planet.
All four seasons (called “books” by the creators) of The Legend of Korra, totaling 52 episodes (“chapters”), will release on Netflix on August 14, 2020. Netflix is going all-in with Avatar lately. The release of the two series serves as a precursor for the upcoming premiere of the service’s live-action remake of the original series.

Legend of Korra had a troubled first-run, with Nickolodeon poorly leveraging the show’s fanbase. During its original run, the third season was pulled after the seventh episode due to poor ratings. The remaining five episodes were made available through various online providers. Furthermore, the first eight episodes of season four premiered in an online-only format as well. However, after a backlash, the series returned to the network for from season four, episode nine, until its conclusion.
Unfortunately, Avatar is much like Firefly because it has a considerable and loyal fanbase. However, the property owners refuse to tap into it. The disastrous M. Night Shyamalan film was widely panned. Besides a few comic book series throughout the years, the series hasn’t seen much new material. However, with Netflix on the case, we may finally see it make a comeback.
Again, you can check out Avatar: The Last Airbender right now on Netflix. The Legend of Korra will release on the service on August 14, 2020.
