Some intrepid players will discover a Gilded Chest in Baldur’s Gate 3 that won’t open from just inspecting it. The Gilded Chest of Selune can’t be opened with a key, either. Instead, the player must divine the container’s secret and unlock it with a method that isn’t exactly intuitive. However, this isn’t as difficult to figure out as some of the puzzles in the game.

How to open the Gilded Chest of Selune in Baldur’s Gate 3
Explorers may find the Owlbear Cave west of Druid’s Grove. Here, players will, like the location’s name suggests, find an Owlbear and her cub. Those two are outside the purview of this guide. Instead, we’ll be discussing what can be found in a side passage of the cave.
If players jump down the rocks into the center of the water pool in Owlbear Cave, they’ll find an area containing the Gilded Chest of Selune. Most will likely saunter up to it, happy to snag the goods inside, only to be blown to bits when they attempt to open it. Yes, the Gilded Chest, one of the many magically trapped containers found in Baldur’s Gate 3.
The Gilded Chest has a unique locking mechanism that’s controlled by a nearby item. Players should bypass the chest initially and jump over toward the nearby statue. Behind this statue, the party can make a perception check to find a Selunite Prayer Sheet. Players may have to bring all four party members over if the leader doesn’t see the sheet immediately.
Once the prayer sheet has been found, return to the chest. When next to it, players should open their inventory and read the Selunite Prayer Sheet. This should disarm the traps and unlock the chest. (Players might want to make sure their party is healed by having a short rest begore attempting to open it regardless.)
When clicking on the chest with Shadowheart in the party, the player will have to perform an Insight, Intimidation, or Persuasion skill check. Otherwise, they can just open the chest and get the goodies inside.
