The Pokemon Sword and Shield Crown Tundra expansion is full of complex missions. One of the later quests sees players solving a puzzle to open the door to Rock Peak Ruins and find Regirock. However, to open the Regirock door, they’ll need to let the first Pokemon to hold a never-changing stone. What is the never-changing stone, and how do you use it to open the door? Read on to find out.
The Crown Tundra | What is the never-changing stone?
The never-changing stone in Pokemon Sword and Shield‘s Crown Tundra expansion is the Everstone. It’s an item used to prevent certain Pokemon from evolving. As such, it’s the stone of never-changing. Get it?
With this information in mind, the riddle to the Regirock door is fairly straightforward. It reads “Let the first Pokemon hold a never-changing stone.” Putting all the pieces together, you’ll want to equip an Everstone to the first Pokemon in your party.
What you need to do is equip an Everstone to your party leader. In case you’ve forgotten, it’s the one that follows you around the overworld. Once that’s done, interact with the door again. As if by magic, it will open.
The rest of the puzzle is also quite simple. If you want to avoid any spoilers, skip the rest of this paragraph. When you walk through the doors, you’ll notice that the floor panels light up as you walk over them. Walk around enough to turn all of the lights on and you’ll see the statue change. You’ll also notice a message saying “Something in the air has changed.” After they turn off again, you need to make the lights on the floor match the pattern displayed on the statue.
Once that’s done, interact with the statue. Regirock will bust into the scene, and a battle will commence. This is a level 70 Rock-type creature, so you’ll want to use your best Flying, Bug, Fire, or Ice-type creatures to take it down. Beat it, then capture it, and you’ll be free to move on to catch all of Crown Tundra’s Legendary Pokemon.
