The PlayStation 5 is the newest, shiniest, and biggest console to come from the crew at Sony. It has support for high refresh rates, 4K resolution, and loads of different games and apps. However, the first stop for many new users will be to change the PS5 theme. How does this work, and what can you do to change the way the PS5 UI looks? Read on to find out.
How to change themes on the PlayStation 5
There is currently no way to change themes on the PS5. The default look of the user interface is the one you’ll be stuck with until Sony or other developers introduce new PS5 themes.
The inability to change the PlayStation 5 theme is a bit odd, considering the past few Sony consoles have had themes available right from the start. The PlayStation 3 was Sony’s first console to allow users to choose and customize their themes, including the option to set a unique wallpaper. That functionality was carried over to the PlayStation 4 as well, though wallpaper support was not available until a later update.
For both of those consoles, the method used to change the theme is practically identical:
- From the main menu, head over to Settings
- Open up the Themes option
- On the Select Theme screen, choose whichever option suits your fancy
- Depending on which you choose, you may also be able to set the theme to a color of your choice
- Alternatively, choose Custom to set a wallpaper image of your choosing
Of course, we fully expect that PS5 theme support will be added in a later update. Considering the console itself can be customized, there’s no reason to think that the look of the user interface will be fixed forevermore. Until then, you’ll simply have to make due with the default PS5 theme.
