As with with modern-age consoles, the PlayStation 5 has access to loads of apps and games. PS5 players are also able to enjoy their past PS4 games thanks to backward compatibility. Of course, with a potentially tremendous backlog, many players will soon start thinking about how to organize games. The clear choice is to create a folder on the PS5 that can be used to keep everything in order. But is that possible? If so, how does it work?
How to create a folder on the PlayStation 5
There is currently no way to create a folder on the PlayStation 5. The base version of the PS5 software does not provide any way to create folders in order to organize games or software. For now, you’ll have to make do with the default sorting.
It’s not exactly clear why the ability to create folders is missing. After all, this feature has been available dating back to the PlayStation 3. The system changed a little bit with the PlayStation 4, but the process is still fairly straightforward:
- From the main menu or the Library, highlight the game you want to place into a folder
- Press the Options button on the DualShock 4
- Select the Add to Folder option
- Choose either Add to New Folder or Add to Existing Folder
- If needed, give the folder a name
- Repeat the process to add more games
For people with big game libraries, this sort of feature is a must-have. After all, heading to the Library can be a chore, especially if you’re not sure whether or not a specific game is installed or still needs to be downloaded.
Here’s to hoping Sony introduces a way to create a folder on the PlayStation 5 soon. Since we’re still very early in the console’s life cycle, it’s very likely that new features will be added down the line. So if your library is growing quickly, don’t fret: Chances are good Sony will introduce some kind of sorting option in the near future.
