Is Hitman 3 episodic?

Wondering if Hitman 3 is episodic isn’t a bad topic to think about. After all, the 2016 reboot was released over the span of six individual episodes and Hitman 2 dropped all at once and had some extra DLC chapters later. So is Hitman 3 episodic?

Is Hitman 3 episodic?

Hitman 3 is not episodic and is a traditional, full release. Like Hitman 2 and every other entry aside from the 2016 reboot, Hitman 3 will come out all at once on January 20, 2021 on PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch (through cloud streaming). The game will have its six levels drop on that date, too. IO has not expressed whether or not it will release episodes of Hitman 3 down the line either.

However, it is likely that the team will put out some sort of free teaser. Not only did the team temporarily release the 2016 entry’s first episode for free, it also gave away the whole first season in May 2020 on PS4 for a limited time. Players can also download Hitman 2‘s first level for free. Hitman 2‘s starter pack is still available for no charge on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

But Hitman 2 was never made into a fully episodic and it’s very likely Hitman 3 won’t go episodic either. IO may carve up chunks of the game sometime in the future, but Hitman 3 will probably stay one big pack for the foreseeable future.

It’s also probable that the game won’t get any DLC either. Not only does it not have a season pass, IO has been pretty vocal about moving on from the series. This, combined with the way the game ends, means it’s probably a pretty safe bet it won’t get any big DLC episodes in the future either. A non-canon expansion is not completely out of the question, but given the circumstances, it probably won’t see the light of day.
