Those purchasing a new Nintendo Switch likely wonder whether or not a game comes with it. After all, a pack-in game used to be a video game tradition. Unfortunately, it’s a tradition that’s fallen by the wayside since the days of the SNES, but that’s changed in recent years.
Does the Nintendo Switch come with a game?
Some Nintendo Switch consoles do come with a game. However, the most common edition, which comes in a red box with a picture of the Switch on the front, does not. Unfortunately, the consoles that do come with a pack-in game aren’t readily available. Given that just the Switch’s base version can still be hard to find, potential buyers likely won’t find any of the variations that come with a game in stores. However, the list below will help differentiate them.
Nintendo Switch consoles that don’t come with a game
The consoles below don’t come with a pack-in title:
- Original Base Model (White front)
- “New” Base Model (Red front)
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons Console

Do any Nintendo Switch Lite consoles come with a game?
Unlike with the base Nintendo Switch, none of the Switch Lite SKUs released have come with a pack-in game. The only special edition console, the Pokemon Sword and Shield variation, doesn’t include its namesake.
Nintendo may release more Switch and Switch Lites with pack-in games. However, unlike with the 3DS, the company seems less interested in producing Switch console variations.
