Is Yoshi in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury? Fans of the green dinosaur are inevitably wondering how to unlock Yoshi in Mario 3D World, with the character not available in its starting line-up of character. So can you unlock the character in the new Nintendo Switch game, or is this a repeat of Mario 64 all over again?
How to unlock Yoshi in Super Mario 3D World
Yoshi was previously “unlocked” in Super Mario 3D World on Wii U by way of mods, though these are prohibited by Nintendo’s Terms of Service and are not available for the Nintendo Switch version of the game.
The Yoshi mod in Mario 3D World replicated Luigi’s moveset and replaced the character, though included the dinosaur’s voice lines.

There is no traditional way to unlock Yoshi in Super Mario 3D World, with Nintendo choosing to not include the character in the game due to his moveset being similar to other moves included in the game, along with the introduction of fellow dino Plessie.
Super Mario 3D World director Kenta Motokura told IGN back in 2013 that “there are certain abilities that are similar to what Yoshi could do,” such as the piranha flower that players can carry. He also noted how the introduction of Plessie, the large dinosaur that up to 4 players can ride simultaneously, would have perhaps made Yoshi one dinosaur too many.
As such, while Yoshi would have certainly added an interesting dynamic to Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, the character also isn’t available this time around. It remains to be seen if Nintendo will provide any future DLC that will add the dino and other highly requested characters such as Daisy, but in the meantime, players will have to make do with its four original characters.
In other Nintendo news, McDonald’s Pokemon cards are currently selling for ridiculous prices, while Pokemon Go recently revealed it would collaborate with the rapper Post Malone.
