Nintendogs on Switch would make sense. The game was a colossal hit when it debuted on the Nintendo DS and sold over 20 million copies. The sequel, Nintendogs + Cats, went on to be a success as well on the 3DS with 4 million units sold. So, why have our furry friends not made their way to the Switch yet, and will they ever?
Is Nintendogs coming to the Nintendo Switch?
As of writing, there’s been no announcement of a new Nintendogs game for Nintendo Switch. However, there hasn’t been a statement released by Nintendo that a new Nintendogs isn’t in development, so another game in the series could be on the way.
If we had to speculate, we’d assume that we won’t see a new Nintendogs game on the Switch. Nintendo has been more conservative with game development in the last few years and tends to concentrate on its core series. However, there’s always the chance of a new title or a remaster, especially given the franchise’s previous success.
Those who are itching to get their cute puppy and kitty fix on Switch do have at least one alternative to Nintendogs. Little Friends: Dogs & Cats allows players to interact with dogs and cats. This includes activities like feeding, petting, playing, and dressing up these animal pals. It’s adorable, and it just makes you want to melt. Unfortunately, Little Friends doesn’t quite measure up to Nintendogs, especially when it comes to interactivity. Our EIC, Paul Tamburro, reviewed the game and had this to say:
“There are fewer than a handful of activities you can take part in with each pet. Friend Walk, in which you take your dog on a long plod through a park and get them to urinate a few times for cash, sees you guiding your canine using the Joy-Con as a lead… Little Friends: Dogs and Cats isn’t the competent Nintendogs alternative many were likely hoping for.”
Unfortunately, fans will be kept waiting to get that classic Nintendogs experience on Switch. Fingers crossed we’ll get a new game someday soon.
