AMD’s FidelityFX graphics software is now available on Xbox Series X|S consoles. This “image quality toolkit” serves to improve game visuals in a variety of areas. Naturally, that has PS5 owners wondering if there’s FidelityFX integration on PlayStation. If not, is there a PS5 AMD FidelityFX release date? Here’s the need-to-know on Sony collaborating with AMD to improve PS5 graphics.
Will AMD FidelityFX come to PS5?
AMD FidelityFX is available now on Xbox Series X|S consoles. According to Linus Sebastian of Linus Tech Tips, the DLSS equivalent will also come to PlayStation 5 in the future. At the time of writing, however, there’s no official PS5 FidelityFX release date.
Linus states that AMD plans to support FidelityFX Super Resolution across all of its GPUs, including those inside PS5 consoles. Since Xbox hardware shares more in common with the average Windows PC than a PlayStation does, it makes sense that FidelityFX PS5 integration would take longer.
FidelityFX software targets eight key visual areas to improve the overall image quality of supported games.
What does AMD FidelityFX include?
- Contrast adaptive sharpening
- Ambient occlusion
- Variable shading
- Screen space reflections
- Denoiser
- HDR mapper
- Downsampler
- Parallel sort
There are some helpful comparison shots on the AMD FidelityFX website to illustrate the differences that each of these features can make. Additionally, the trailer below showcases the tech in action across a variety of already supported PC titles.
When it’s ready, PS5 FidelityFX integration will arrive via a free system update. How big of a difference the tech makes will depend on how widespread its adoption is. Even if the platform supports AMD FidelityFX, developers still need to implement the software in their games.
