Will there be a Final Fantasy Tactics Switch release date?

RPG fans love the Final Fantasy series, both for its blockbuster releases and its interesting spinoffs. In fact, even the series’ the lesser-known titles, like Final Fantasy Tactics, wind up becoming fan favorites. Given that Square Enix is no stranger to re-releasing old games for modern platforms, many fans have been wondering if there will be a Final Fantasy Tactics release for Nintendo Switch.

When is Final Fantasy Tactics coming to Nintendo Switch?

When is Final Fantasy Tactics coming to Nintendo Switch?

Unfortunately, Square Enix hasn’t mentioned any plans to bring Final Fantasy Tactics to the Nintendo Switch. As such, there’s no telling how long it will take before we hear about a Final Fantasy Tactics Switch release date.

Frankly, it’s a bit depressing, since Tactics still rates among the most well-received games across the entire series. Fans loved approaching jobs strategically and building toward massive battles. Plus, its isometric graphics set it apart from its traditionally two-dimensional brethren. It also established the realm of Ivalice, forming the foundation of Final Fantasy 12, and eventually inspired two spin-off titles of its own.

The game’s action was well-matched to portable systems, too. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift both proved that turn-based strategy can easily fit into players’ pockets. Small wonder that Square Enix later re-released FFT for the PlayStation Portable as War of the Lions.

Still, none of the games in the Tactics series are available for Nintendo Switch. The closest fans will get is the Wii U version of Tactics Advance; A2 never released outside of the Nintendo DS.

Otherwise, it seems the Tactics series has run its course. Final Fantasy Tactics does not have a Nintendo Switch release date, and it likely never will. There’s no word on the Tactics Advance games coming to Switch, either. Until Square Enix decides to revive its classic turn-based series, fans will have to stick to classic consoles.
