Bad news, Mortal Kombat fans: MK11 has finally met its end. The team at NetherRealm Studios has finally announced that after two years of support, no more new MK11 DLC will be released. Instead, the studio is moving on to its next project. But where does that leave its staple franchise? When can we expect to hear more about the Mortal Kombat 11 release date?
When is the next Mortal Kombat game coming out?
There is currently no word on when the next Mortal Kombat game is coming out. It’s true that NetherRealm Studios has moved onto its next project following MK11, but there’s been no announcement regarding the Mortal Kombat 12 release date. By all accounts, the next MK game isn’t even under active development.
Unfortunately, the news gets worse. Not only do we not know if MK12 is planned, we don’t even know if it’s the studio’s next game. When NetherRealm announced that support for MK11 had ended, it said it was moving on to its next project. Only problem is, the team didn’t say what.
NetherRealm is now focusing on its next project and after more than two years of supporting Mortal Kombat 11, DLC for the game, including characters, has come to an end.

Furthermore, there’s a growing amount of evidence that the studio’s next game may be an entirely new property. Many fans are hoping to hear about the next Injustice game, but it’s entirely possible NetherRealm studios is instead looking toward the Marvel universe. That idea has even been bolstered by Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon’s own tongue-in-cheek Marvel vs Mortal Kombat mock-ups.
Otherwise, maybe it’s best to look at the studio’s history. Based on past launches, NetherRealm usually releases a new core Mortal Kombat game every four years. Going on this evidence alone, it’s likely that Mortal Kombat 12 won’t release until 2025.
In other words, we’re in for a wait. NetherRealm Studios has not mentioned a Mortal Kombat 12 release date, nor any development plans. Regardless of exactly when the next Mortal Kombat game may come out, you can bet it won’t be soon.
