The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker Switch Release Date

Zelda Wind Waker Switch release date

While it wasn’t always so popular, tons of fans are hoping that Zelda: The Wind Waker will get a Switch release date. Given that it’s the 35th anniversary of the franchise, it would make sense that Nintendo would bring Wind Waker to its latest console, especially since an HD version was made for the Wii U that could be a straight port.

Will The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker get a Switch release date?

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem as though Zelda: Wind Waker will get a Switch release date. Despite rumors of a Zelda 35th anniversary collection being in the works, series creator Eiji Aonuma shut down any hope that it would be coming to the Switch, at least this year. At E3, Aonuma stated very bluntly that Skyward Sword HD would be the only Zelda title to be released on the Switch to celebrate the anniversary.

Unfortunately, Nintendo is terrible at leveraging its back catalog, so it’s likely Wind Waker won’t be coming to the Switch in the near future, if ever. It’s odd that Wii U titles that sold less have been ported to the Switch, but the big N’s decisions rarely make sense to fans.

Wind Waker’s reveal was originally met with derision due to its cel-shaded, cartoonish art style. However, the game has become a much-beloved entry in the Zelda series over the years and is lauded as one of the best in the franchise.

We will be getting Skyward Sword HD, but it seems like a strange choice given that Wind Waker, Ocarina of Time, and Majora’s Mask are more fondly remembered. Perhaps if Skyward Sword sells well, we’ll finally get a chance to play the other 3D Zelda titles on the Switch. For now, we wouldn’t hold our breath about their odds of coming to the console.
