The world of Fortnite is always changing. In fact, sometimes it merges with entirely new worlds. In the case of Chapter 2 Season 7, there’s even a weird alien biome to be found near the center of the island. This glowing purple space is filled with strange plants, fierce enemies, and, of course, loot. But is that all there is? What are alien biomes, and what are they designed to do?
Fortnite | What is an alien biome?
In Fortnite, alien biomes are small areas filled with alien creatures. They’re easy to spot thanks to the purple glow that surrounds them. Inside, you can expect to encounter lowered gravity as well as alien objects, enemies, parasites.
Without diving too far into the specifics, these new biomes were added as part of the Chapter 2 Season 7 storyline. As for their purpose, they’re often tied into challenges. For example, players currently need to place Bioscanners within alien biomes in order to complete this week’s fifth challenge.
Thankfully, you shouldn’t have a hard time finding them. Aside from the obvious purple glow, there’s only one big alien biome to be found on the island. It’s at Holly Hatchery, and within you’ll find three places you can drop a Bioscanner to complete the challenge.
Otherwise, the only other fixed alien biome location in Fortnite is on the Mothership. Or, perhaps more accurately is the mothership, as the whole area is affected by lowered gravity. Players can also spawn their own tiny biomes by deploying Alien Nanites.
It’s better not to ask what alien biomes are, but instead what they’re for. Namely, they’re for having fun; a place where players congregate to take out weird creatures and find new gear. But these tiny little biomes are also an important place to complete the latest weekly challenge.
