Fans of 2D sidescrolling adventures rejoice, as the much-anticipated Axiom Verge 2 released today for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PC. The surprise rollout was part of yesterday’s Nintendo Indie World conference, with the teaser ending with the announcement that the game was out now. The sequel to the Metroidvania original from 2015, Axiom Verge 2 puts you in the shoes of Indra, a billionaire moored in a mysterious pixelated world. If you’re an Xbox owner desperate to play Axiom Verge 2, we’ve got details on the Xbox release date.
Is Axiom Verge 2 coming to Xbox One and Series X|S?
At the time of writing, an Axiom Verge 2 Xbox release date has not yet been confirmed.
Developer Thomas Happ has yet to announce a release date for Xbox One and Series X|S. While that doesn’t mean it won’t release on those consoles one day, you can’t play it on there at the moment.
When its release was confirmed at the Nintendo Indie World event yesterday, only four platforms were confirmed. It’s out now on Switch, Epic Games Store, and PS4. They also confirmed that a PS5 version would release soon, but that isn’t here yet. That just leaves the Xbox platforms, which don’t have the game. The official Axiom Verge website also omits Xbox consoles from the release information, meaning it won’t be coming out any time soon.
There is reason to have some hope, though. The website tells us to “stay tuned to learn about additional platforms,” which could well include Xbox One and Series X|S. Of course, they could also mean Steam and other PC stores, so it isn’t a guarantee. The bad news is that the original Axiom Verge never released on Xbox One upon its 2015 release, which might spell bad news. Therefore, it’s not worth getting your hopes up.
In other news, Dead by Daylight is getting flak from fans for reintroducing skill-based matchmaking. The upcoming Aliens: Fireteam Elite will also get a year of post-launch updates and content.
