Has The Batman HBO Max release date been confirmed? In fact, is The Batman coming to HBO Max at all, or has Warner Bros decided to only give the eagerly-anticipated DC Comics movie a theatrical release? Previously recent DC movies such as this month’s The Suicide Squad launched on the HBO Max streaming service at the same time as it arrived in theaters, so will The Batman follow suit? Let’s find out.
Is The Batman coming to HBO Max?
The release date of The Batman on the HBO Max streaming service is April 18, 2022, which is exactly 45 days after The Batman’s worldwide theatrical release date of March 4, 2022.
As revealed by Variety, Warner Bros has struck a deal with AMC Theatres to ensure that all of the studio’s 2022 movies would launch in theaters first, well before releasing to stream on Warner Discovery’s HBO Max service. Contrary to what happened with this year, where all of Warner Bros’ movies launched on HBO Max day-and-date with the theatrical release, in 2022 the studio’s movies will only appear on HBO Max 45 days after their theatrical release. This is similar to what is going on with September’s Marvel movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which is streaming on Disney Plus 45 days after appearing in theaters.
The movies affected by this deal include DC Comics movies The Batman, The Flash, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom — all of which will only be streamable on the HBO Max service 45 days after hitting theaters. One movie that isn’t affected by the deal is sci-fi epic Dune, which is still due for release this October and will appear on HBO Max around the same time.
So to recap: The Batman’s HBO Max release date is around April 18, 2022, 45 days after it appears in theaters in March. The movie will likely have an age rating of PG-13, rather than the R rating many fans expected.
