Ghost of Tsushima: How to unlock Iki Island

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is here, and with it comes the Iki Island expansion. Players eager to travel to this new area will wonder if it’s available as soon as the game is installed or if it’ll have to be unlocked. We’ll go into detail on how to get to Iki Island in Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut below.

How do you unlock Iki Island in Ghost of Tsushima?

Unlock Iki Island Ghost of Tsushima

Some might assume that Iki Island is unlocked from the beginning of Ghost of Tsushima, or that it’s a standalone expansion. However, that’s not the case. Instead, players must reach a certain point in the game before they can go to Iki Island.

To go to Iki Island in Ghost of Tsushima, players must reach Act 2 of the game. When the second act begins, Jin will be able to access the Toyotama region of Tsushima, where the prerequisite mission to unlock Iki Island is located.

Once players have access to the Toyotama region, they’ll see a mission titled “Journey Into the Past” in the Akashima area. To unlock Iki Island, players must complete this mission and talk to a boatman. However, be aware, once Jin travels to Iki Island, he can’t leave until the story there is over.

Those wondering what the story in Iki Island will entail should read the description of the expansion from PlayStation Blog:

“If you’re a history buff, you may know that in addition to Tsushima, the neighboring island of Iki was also invaded during this time period. Today we’re excited to reveal that a whole new chapter in Jin’s journey is coming and will take place on Iki. In this new story, Jin travels to the island to investigate rumors of a Mongol presence. But soon, he finds himself caught up in events with deeply personal stakes that will force him to relive some traumatic moments from his past.

We’ll have more to share about the story of Iki soon, but today we can confirm that beyond a whole new story and new characters, this new island also features tons of new content including brand new environments to explore, new armor for Jin as well as his horse, new mini-games, new techniques, new enemy types, and much more. There are even new animals to pet!”

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is available now on PS4 and PS5.
