Aspyr

What has Aspyr done besides the Knights of the Old Republic remake?

If you’ve seen today’s exciting news from PlayStation Showcase, you’ll know that a PS5 remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is on its way soon. Details are currently very slim on the reimagining of Bioware’s sprawling RPG, but we do know that Aspyr is the studio handling the remake. If you aren’t familiar with the company and want some reassurance that Knights of the Old Republic is in good hands, then fear not. We’re here to break down some of the key games from Aspyr’s history.

What has Aspyr made before Knights of the Old Republic remake?

Aspyr

If you’re unfamiliar with Aspyr, you’ll probably best know them for their range of game ports. Often, they’ve moved classic PC and console games over to Mac and handheld devices – but they’ve got some remakes and remasters under their belt, too.

In fact, Aspyr’s back-catalogue contains a large amount of Star Wars ports and remasters. Most recently, they were responsible for the Star Wars: Republic Commando remaster for PS5 and Xbox One, which released earlier this year. Elsewhere in the galaxy far, far away, they ported The Force Unleashed over to Mac, and the Jedi Knight games to previous-gen consoles.

Of course, some of their work is outside of Star Wars, too. They have some proficiency with mobile ports, having adapted Sid Meier’s Civilization VI for iOS and Android devices in 2019 and 2020, respectively. They’ve also handled ports of franchises ranging from Call of Duty to The Sims. Therefore, a remaster on the scale of Knights of the Old Republic seems very much within their skillset.

While it might be a long while off in the future, it’s good to know that Aspyr not only know how to remaster games for different platforms, but know and love the Star Wars franchise too. It’s certainly an exciting time to enter a galaxy far, far away.
