Dark, gritty, challenging games like Bloodborne are all the rage this generation. But From Software’s PlayStation 4 exclusive so far seems to be a one-off experience. Have the developers provided a release date for Bloodborne 2? If so, could the series make the jump from PS5 to other systems like PC, Xbox, or Switch?
What is the Bloodborne 2 release date?
Bloodborne 2 does not have a release date because it is not in development. The team at From Software are currently working on Elden Ring, an ambitious new RPG coming to PC and current-generation consoles. If there’s any chance of a Bloodborne sequel, we haven’t heard about it yet.
Of course, there is a chance that Bloodborne 2 will never be made. In a 2015 interview with GameSpot, From Software head Hidetaka Miyazaki expressed concerns over making the same sort of games over and over: “I don’t think it’d be the right choice to continue indefinitely creating Souls and Bloodborne games,” he said. “I believe that From Software has to create new things.”
Miyazaki also said that he was “considering Dark Souls 3 to be the big closure on the series.” True to his word, there hasn’t been a new Dark Souls game since the third series entry. Likewise, there’s been no confirmation of a Bloodborne sequel at all since the original game launched in 2015.
Could Bloodborne 2 come to Xbox or Switch?
Given that Bloodborne was a PlayStation 4 exclusive, it would make sense for the sequel to follow suit. However, since Bloodborne 2 is not in development, there’s no point wondering about its available platforms.
With that said, From Software hasn’t had too many platform exclusives lately. The original Demon’s Souls, Bloodborne, and Déraciné are among the only noteworthy PlayStation exclusives from the studio over the last decade. So, in the far-off chance that Bloodborne 2 does actually get made, perhaps it would no longer be a PlayStation exclusive.
