It feels like forever since the series was announced, and we finally have Star Trek Strange New Worlds Season 1 Episode 1 release date. Paramount has kept a tight lid on the series, and we’re pumped to finally see what Captain Pike’s five-year mission has in store. Fortunately, there’s not long to wait for the first season of Strange New World to begin.
What’s the release date of Star Trek Strange New Worlds Season 1 Episode 1?
The release date for Star Trek Strange New Worlds Season 1 Episode 1 is May 5, 2022. The first season consists of 10 episodes which will run until July 7. A second season is also in production, which we expect will release in 2023.
Strange New Worlds will deviate from Discovery and Picard by being more episodic in nature. In an interview with Deadline, showrunner Alex Kurtzman stated:
“We are going to do stand-alone episodes. There will be emotional serialization. There will be two-parters. There will be larger plot arcs. But it really is back to the model of alien-of-the-week, planet-of-the-week, challenge-on-the-ship-of-the-week.”
The objective of this series seems to be to replicate the same feeling as Star Trek The Original Series, and The Next Generation. A core group of Trek fans have felt alienated from the franchise due to the over-the-top, serialized, hyperdramatic treatment given to Star Trek Discovery and Picard. The big question is whether or not Strange New Worlds will win back those old fans that miss a time when Star Trek was less about galaxy-threatening arcs and more about episodic adventures that just affected the Enterprise.
How to watch season 1
The first season of Star Trek Strange New Worlds will premiere on Paramount Plus in the United States. In Canada, it’ll air on CTV Sci-Fi Channel on the same day as the US. After that, episodes will be available for streaming on Crave. Unfortunately, international streaming is uncertain, and we’ll have to wait until closer to the air date to find out more.
