Chrono Trigger 2 release date platforms

Will there ever be a Chrono Trigger 2?

Fans of some Square Enix franchises just can’t catch a break. Even though it’s been over 20 years since the last game in the series was made, people are hoping to see a Chrono Trigger 2 release date. We’ll look at what’s going on with this IP, and if there’s any hope of a new game below.

What’s the release date for Chrono Trigger 2?

Chrono Trigger 2 platforms release date

There’s currently no Chrono Trigger 2 release date. Square last released a game in the Chrono series with Chrono Cross in 1999. Despite rumors of a remaster of Chrono Cross, the only thing we’ve seen out of the series in two decades is a crossover in the mobile game Another Eden.

Chrono Trigger has gotten a few re-releases since its debut on the Super Nintendo in 1995. However, the game hasn’t received a full remaster or a remake. Despite this, it’s a title that continues to win new fans and is still considered one of the best games ever made. Unfortunately, aside from a non-canon side-story, Radical Dreamers, and a sequel, Chrono Cross, the franchise has been dormant for a long time.

We bet that the most fans can expect is a Chrono Cross remaster in the vein of Legend of Mana and SaGa Frontier. For some reason, the Chrono franchise is one of a handful of IPs that Square Enix just absolutely refuses to touch, regardless of fan outcry. It, Parasite Eve, and Xenogears are barely acknowledged by the company for reasons unknown.

Of course, being a game that has a story centering around time travel, there are a lot of places for Chrono Trigger 2 to go. Lavos is finally eliminated for good in Chrono Cross, but we could return to the original world to see the continued adventures of Crono, Lucca, Marle, and the rest of the gang.

What platforms will it release on?

Given that Square Enix has given no indication that it wishes to do anything with the series, we doubt Chrono Trigger 2 will ever release on any console. However, at some point, new management might decide to finally tap into those properties. As for what platform they would end up on is anyone’s guess. We might see them a year from now or 20 years from now.
