Super Mario Galaxy 3 Release Date: Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox

Super Mario Galaxy 3 Release Date: Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox

It’s been a long time since we’ve heard about Super Mario Galaxy. In fact, over a dozen years have passed since we’ve seen a new game in the series. So what’s the word on Super Mario Galaxy 3? Has Nintendo provided a release date? Is there any chance of it coming to PlayStation or Xbox consoles?

What is the Super Mario Galaxy 3 release date?

What is the Super Mario Galaxy 3 release date?

Super Mario Galaxy 3 does not have a release date. In fact, Nintendo hasn’t said that it’s working on the game at all. So far as we know, the series ended at Super Mario Galaxy 2, and there are no plans for another sequel.

The last time we got any kind of real official word on Super Mario Galaxy was back in 2015. In a report from Eurogamer, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto said it was open to the “opportunity” of a new Galaxy game. However, the team cited concerns about motion sickness, and ultimately decided that “going back to our roots” was a smarter decision.

In other words, it’s not like Super Mario Galaxy 3 will never be made. But for now, the team is focused on different projects. And so it has been for nearly 13 years, apparently. It’s always a possibility, but at this rate, it doesn’t seem like a priority.

Will Super Mario Galaxy 3 come to PlayStation or Xbox?

Nintendo-developed games only release for Nintendo hardware. As such, Super Mario Galaxy 3 would not release for the PlayStation or Xbox. It’s a Nintendo property, so it would only be available on a Nintendo console, same as the original game.

Nintendo hasn’t provided a release date for Super Mario Galaxy 3. The game is not in development, nor has it been announced. Until we hear otherwise, it’s best to assume it’s not going to happen. Fortunately, you can play Super Mario Galaxy on the Switch through the recently released Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection.
