Many hope Square Enix has a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster release date set sometime in the near future. This game propelled tactical RPGs into the mainstream and was many players’ first experience with the genre. Unfortunately, while it was ported to mobile platforms, it’s not available on any current consoles, making it hard for many to play.
Will there be a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster release date?
So far, we’ve got no official confirmation of a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster release date. The game already received a major update in the past in the form of Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions on PSP, which many consider to be the definitive version. I personally preferred the original translation, flawed as it was. The updated English script is incredibly flowery, which gives the whole thing the feeling of a stage play.
We’d be surprised if Final Fantasy Tactics didn’t get at least a basic remaster for current consoles. It’s already been ported to iOS and Android and is still a much-lauded title. Coincidentally, 2022 is the 25th anniversary of the original game’s release and the 15th anniversary of the release of War of the Lions. So, this would make a great year to release a remaster.
The kingdom that makes up the setting of Final Fantasy Tactics, Ivalice, has inspired further titles in the franchise. In particular, it’s the setting for Final Fantasy 12, which is turn, has been used in spin-offs and other games. So, Tactics is obviously an inspiration that developers continually look back toward. As such, we can expect it to be a title that Square Enix revisits in one way or the other in the future.
What platforms will it release on?
Final Fantasy Tactics isn’t a demanding game. As a result, we anticipate a remaster would be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch.
