When players make it to the Volcano Manor in Elden Ring, they’re asked to join a covenant. Since the inhabitants are described as “blasphemous” and are generally menacing, players will wonder if there are negative consequences to joining the Volcano Manor covenant. We’ll cover how to enter the manor and its questline below.
Should I join the Volcano Manor covenant in Elden Ring?
Thankfully, it doesn’t appear that there are any negative consequences for joining the Volcano Manor covenant in Elden Ring. Unlike previous FromSoftware games, covenants aren’t directly competing against each other, so joining one doesn’t lock players out of joining another.
To enter Volcano Manor, players must receive an invitation from an NPC north of the Laskyar Ruins in Liurnia of the Lakes. She asks players to get her necklace from another NPC a bit further north. Pay him 1,000 runes for it, take the necklace back, and she’ll give players the Volcano Manor Invitation.
After speaking with Tanith, players will need to head into the Drawing Room and obtain a letter. This letter describes the name and location of an NPC whom the covenant wants players to invade. There are three of these that players need to complete:
- Old Knight Istvan: East of Stormveil Castle
- Rileigh the Idle: Altus Plateau
- Juno Hoslow: Mountaintops of the Giants
Completing each invasion will give players the NPC’s gear and progress the questline. After killing Hoslow, Tanith will ask players if they want to meet the lord of the manor. If players answer yes, she’ll transport them to the room directly before the boss fight with Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy.
However, players can choose to bypass the covenant to get to Rykard. There’s a room with an illusory wall in Volcano Manor that players can roll through. It’ll take them to a path that eventually leads to the lord of the manor. However, this is a much more treacherous route than Tanith’s teleportation.
After beating Rykard, players can head out to power up his Great Rune. Tanith will decide to leave the manor, and all the remaining NPCs inside will scatter to new locations.
