Star Citizen PS5 Xbox Series X|S

Will There be a Star Citizen PS5 and Xbox Series X Release Date?

While Star Citizen has primarily been designed around PC, some fans wonder if it’ll ever come to PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. Given that the game is still in alpha, Cloud Imperium Games is obviously focusing on its primary platform. But will it bring the game to consoles once the full version finally launches?

Will Star Citizen ever release on console?

Many players would say the better question would be, “will Star Citizen ever release at all?” If it does, and proves to be a success, we wouldn’t be surprised if Star Citizen releases on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. However, with the way development is going, this console generation might be gone by the time this game exits early access.

When Chris Roberts began crowdfunding for Star Citizen in 2012, he said the game might release in 2014. Eight years later, the game is still in alpha status. The single-player component, Squadron 42, is nowhere to be seen, despite stars like Gary Oldman and Mark Hamill offering their likeness to characters. Steady progress has been made on the multiplayer side of things, but it’s still far from complete.

So, if Star Citizen even does release, the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S might be old news. The game is just as likely to release on the PS6 and next Xbox as it is on current consoles. Cloud Imperium Games has continued to blow past release dates to the point where it no longer has set a deadline for the game to be complete.

I’ve followed Star Citizen since the first Kickstarter, and I have my doubts about whether it’ll ever hit 1.0. I was ready to defend the game four years ago when the 3.0 alpha launched. But here we are at 3.17, and promised gameplay systems that were just supposedly just months away when 3.0 was released still haven’t made it into the game.

So, no console release of the game has been announced, and I wouldn’t expect to hear one until the full version launches on PC at some indeterminate point.
