Fans are wondering if the newly released Arma Reforger is a free-to-play title or if it’s available on Xbox Game Pass. Since it’s more of a preview for Arma 4 than its own thing, one would think it might be free-to-play or that since it’s an Xbox exclusive, it might be available on Game Pass. However, Bohemia Interactive’s monetization decision is a bit odd.
Is Arma Reforger free-to-play?
Surprisingly, Arma Reforger isn’t free-to-play. While this game is considered to be in an early access/game preview state, Bohemia Interactive is charging $30 for it. This decision seems odd because you can buy Arma 3 for $30 and have access to a much larger map, a huge mod community, and more content in general.
Reforger’s main purpose is to gather player metrics and feedback concerning the new Enfusion engine. It’s considered the first step towards Arma 4 by Bohemia Interactive, and Arma fans who like to be on the cutting edge might find that enough to justify a purchase. However, only 12 months of support are currently planned, and the devs might move onto Arma 4, leaving Reforger in the dust.
Is Arma Reforger on Xbox Game Pass?
Arma Reforger is an Xbox console exclusive, and some might have taken that as an indicator that it’s also on Xbox Game Pass. However, that isn’t the case. The Xbox Game Preview version of the game retails for $30, just like it does on Steam. Given that this is the first time an Arma game has been released on console, you might think that Bohemia Interactive would give Xbox players to at least try before they buy, but there’s no demo or limited trial either.
There’s no word about why the game isn’t available on PlayStation. However, it might have something to do with the Xbox version allowing players to use mods just like they would on PC. Perhaps Sony finds something about that questionable.
