Netmarble’s mobile reinterpretation of Level-5’s beloved Ni No Kuni franchise is the latest sensation on Android and iOS, but is Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds available on other platforms? Well, yes, but only on PC at the moment. In fact, “Cross Worlds” refers to the cross-play functions between mobile and PC platforms, as much as it does to the union between the real world and the Ni No Kuni world in the game.
Is Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds available on consoles?
At the time of this writing, the answer is unfortunately no. Netmarble has not said anything about the release of the game on the latest PlayStation and Xbox consoles. However, if Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds is successful enough as a free-to-play mobile game, we could see the game brought to PS5, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series consoles eventually.
That said, the major controversy surrounding the game’s use of blockchain may prevent it from being ported over. The mobile market is more comfortable with gacha games and blockchain mechanics than the console market, though not by much. The ability to convert Asterite in the game into other cryptocurrencies like MobiePay, Ethereum, and BitCoin has severely slanted the PvP to the point that even some whales who buy into this pay-to-win scheme are miffed about the imbalance. So if Netmarble ever chooses to port the game over, they will need to consider taking out or completely revamping the PvP blockchain sections for the console audience to accept the game.
As Netmarble is primarily a South Korean mobile game developer, it would be surprising if it decided to enter the console market. It has some experience publishing Koei Tecmo’s Uncharted Waters Online for non-Asian markets in the past, a game which was on PS3 and PS4 in Japan, though the developer ended its service in November 2013 and transferred publishing duties to OGPlanet. Since then, Netmarble’s catalog is mainly for mobile and PC, and it has been successful staying in its lane thus far. If we do see Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds on consoles, it’s more likely that it would come from another publisher with the license and more experience in the space.
