Thor: Love and Thunder is just days away from its theatrical release, and fans are pumped to see it. However, if you haven’t been keeping up with the MCU, you may be curious to know if the film is a sequel or prequel. If you are one of the enthusiasts who is wondering the same question, you can find the answer below.
Is Thor: Love and Thunder a prequel or sequel to the other Thor movies?
Thor: Love and Thunder is a sequel to 2017’s Thor Ragnarok. The film is directed by Taika Watiti and it was officially announced in July 2019. The movie is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame when Thor decided to go on an adventure with the Guardians of the Galaxy. In the trailer, we can see that the God of Thunder is still traveling with the group. Through intergalactic travel, Thor will search for his new purpose because serving the people of Asgard clearly didn’t work well for him.
This time, along with several old faces, the director plans to bring back Natalie Portman, who will reprise her role from Thor: The Dark World as Thor’s former girlfriend, Jane Foster. She will also be seen taking the mantle and powers of Thor as Mighty Thor.
Natalie Portman’s version of Thor was briefly introduced in the official trailer of Thor: Love and Thunder. Besides her, fans got goosebumps after seeing Christian Bale’s Gorr the Butcher, who wants to kill every God in the universe, including Thor. On top of that, Russel Crowe will appear as Zeus, the Olympian God in the movie.
Fans are excited to see Chris Hemsworth returning as the God of Thunder. The actor has appeared as Thor in seven MCU films since 2011; four are his solo movies, and the rest are the Avenger movies. However, Love and Thunder is clearly unique when it comes to storyline and, of course, the character’s costume.
