Emulating Bloodborne on PC is the ongoing dream of many players. Getting to play what many call FromSoftware’s best game at 60 FPS and 4K resolution would be amazing. But, after years of waiting for an official PC release, fans are prepared to use a PS4 emulator to play the game. The big question is whether we’re at the point where that’s possible in 2022.
Is it possible to play Bloodborne on a PS4 emulator in 2022?
Unfortunately, no currently available PS4 emulator can run Bloodborne at any speed, much less at 60 FPS. Any that claim they can are scams. The emulation scene for the PS4 is just starting to develop. We likely won’t see significant progress until it reaches its end of life as the threat of legal action is too high.
As of mid-2022, the most capable PS4 emulator can only boot into a few low-end titles. Due to the complexity of the x64 instruction set, we probably won’t see any actual PS4 emulators running anywhere close to full speed for a decade or more. Instead, since the console is basically a highly customized PC, we’ll probably see emulator devs turn to a compatibility layer (like Wine) to run PS4 games.
The only way to play Bloodborne on PC right now is through PS Remote Play. Using this, you can stream the game via the cloud. However, you’ll likely get mixed results as Bloodborne requires precise control input, and there’s enough latency to be noticeable.
Right now, the best and most likely chance players will have to play Bloodborne at 60 FPS, and a decent resolution would be a PS5 jailbreak. A 60 FPS patch is available, and the PS5 should be strong enough to handle it. Even the PS4 Pro does an admirable job of running the game with the jailbreak patch, with only a few dips here and there, so that’s a possibility as well.
