With many people now concerned about their privacy while using apps like Tiktok and Youtube, there are many different steps users can take to improve their online safety. One of those options in Tiktok is to turn off your watch history. Here’s how to turn off your watch history on Tiktok and activate the app’s version of incognito mode.
How to turn off your Tiktok watch history
Tiktok members can turn off their watch history on their device, but be aware that this will only prevent the device from storing up to seven days of videos. Unfortunately, this does not stop Tiktok from continuing to keep a record of your videos so they can “provide you with more personalized posts”. If incognito mode is still something you wish to do, here is how you can turn off your Tiktok watch history:
- Tap your profile icon in the bottom right of the app on your device
- Tap the icon with three horizontal lines in the top right corner
- Choose Settings and Privacy
- Scroll down to Watch History
- Tap the gear wheel icon in the top right corner
- Tap Clear History to clear all existing video history that’s stored on your device
- In the pop-up window, click Clear to confirm the decision
- Tap the gear wheel icon in the top right corner again
- Tap the Watch History slider to turn off the device’s ability to record your history
Those watching Tiktok through a web browser will be glad to know the video service doesn’t store any video history for browser users. Watch history is a feature exclusively for those who view videos through the Tiktok app.
