AMD Ryzen 7000 Upgrade

Should I Wait for AMD Ryzen 7000 or Upgrade Now?

AMD recently revealed the Ryzen 7000 series of processors for desktop computers, promising new technology that provides higher performance for players. The Ryzen 5000 series is the current range of desktop processors created by AMD, but what are the differences between the two? Here’s our guide to whether it is worth waiting for the AMD Ryzen 7000 chips or whether to upgrade to different hardware now.

What improvements do the Ryzen 7000 processors offer?

AMD Ryzen 7000

The AMD Ryzen 7000 processors all use the brand new Zen 4 technology that features up to 16 cores and 32 threads and is built on a  high-performance TSMC 5nm process node. There are four models of Ryzen 7000 processors, each offering benefits over the AMD Ryzen 5000 processors. At the top of the range, the AMD Ryzen 7950X offers up to 57% better content creation performance in V-Ray Render and up to 15% faster gaming performance. This is due to a 29% single-core performance improvement and up to 27% better performance-per-watt. At the bottom of the range, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X offers a 5% faster gaming performance.

The Ryzen 7000 Series Desktop processors will start appearing at retailers on September 27, so there’s not too much longer to wait. Pricing ranges from $299 for the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X to $699 for the AMD Ryzen 7950X.

Should I upgrade to an AMD Ryzen 5000 processor in September 2022?

AMD Ryzen 5000

The AMD Ryzen 5000 series still outperforms many of rival Intel’s processors despite being two-year-old technology now. With new technology on its way imminently, many retailers are looking to offload the older technology. This means the Ryzen 5000 processors are discounted in several places. Those looking to grab a high-quality processor on a reduced budget, or who desperately need to replace their processor, should definitely consider an AMD Ryzen 5000 processor right now. Those looking for the processors with the highest performance or who can afford to wait a bit longer should perhaps consider spending more money on technology that will stay relevant for longer.
