The Last of Us Part 1 won’t come to PS4. There won’t be an upgrade patch for the remaster or a standalone release. The game is built from the ground up to run on the PS5 alone. However, whether the TLOU remake will release on the PS4 isn’t a bad question when you consider the industry’s state.
Will there be a The Last of Us Part 1 PS4 release date?
The Last of Us Part 1 won’t be coming to PS4. The whole point of the remake was to give the devs experience working with the PS5 for future titles. However, with Sony releasing almost every first-party exclusive on PS4 and PS5, you wouldn’t be remiss to think it was launching on both consoles.
Additionally, while The Last of Us Part 1 looks great, it doesn’t outclass The Last of Us Part 2 by much in visuals. Given that TLOU Part 1 is a more linear, shorter game, it’s not hard to imagine it coming to PS4 with minor downgrades.
However, the most likely reason the game isn’t coming to PS4 is that the PS5 is hurting for exclusives. It’s tough for Sony to show off its latest console if every major title it releases has to be developed for multiple generations. Unfortunately, even two years after launch, PS5 stock issues persist. So, releasing a remake of a game already available on PS4 is Sony’s way of having its cake and eating it too.
