Slime Rancher 2 launched into Early Access and Game Preview on Xbox Series X|S and PC platforms earlier this week. As co-op multiplayer was one of the most-requested features for Slime Rancher, players are wondering whether Monomi Park has added the feature into the latest game. Here’s all you need to know about multiplayer gameplay in Slime Rancher 2.
Does Slime Rancher 2 have co-op multiplayer?
Slime Rancher 2 does not have co-op multiplayer either in splitscreen or online through a single platform ecosystem or through cross-play. While Monomi Park will be making adjustments to the game while it is in Early Access, these plans do not include multiplayer at the time of writing as the team is “currently focusing on Slime Rancher 2 being a great single player experience”. The team also explained how the game’s physics make multiplayer “a very challenging proposition at the level of quality we expect”. However, there’s no need to lose all hope as the team also said that anything was possible in the future and that plans could change.
Multiplayer may not be in the game’s immediate future, but the team does have plenty of other plans for the game, including multiple free updates. This will include new “areas to explore, slimes to wrangle, resources to collect, and gadgets to build”, as well as extending the available story over time. The team has also promised new features that will “change the way you play” and are “not yet seen” in the franchise, all before the game is fully released.
The release dates or frequency of these updates have not been announced so the team has the freedom to take as much time as they need on the upcoming content. As a result, the full version of the game also does not have a release date at the moment.
