JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure manga series will continue with part 9, called The JOJOLands. Now that we know the serialization of the story will begin in February 2023, fans are wondering exactly who will be the protagonist this time around. Who is the new JoJo in The JOJOLands manga?
The new member of the JoJo lineage is Jodio Joestar. He is a descendant of Joseph Joestar, living on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, and has aspirations to claim ultimate power in the world as a millionaire. Up until the manga’s first release upon serialization, fans had only known that the protagonist would be a young “boy,” who was described as “coming into a great wealth” while “in the subtropical islands.”
His ancestor, Joseph Joestar, served as the lead character in Battle Tendency, as well as the deuteragonist of Stardust Crusaders. He also took a minor role in Diamond is Unbreakable. He was born with the ability to use Hamon, inherited from his grandfather and his mother, so we might expect the JOJOLands protagonist to follow suit. In saying that, Hamon hasn’t factored into anything for some time now, so it may be excluded entirely.
Joseph has a son called Josuke Higashikata, and a grandson called Jotaro Kujo. As they have both been protagonists in past stories, it’s unlikely either of them will return as part of this new manga. As part of the first six series, they also technically don’t exist anymore, so unless there is a surprise reintroduction set to take place, they’ll stay out of this story.
Jodio’s older sibling, Dragona Joestar, was also introduced as the deuteragonist of The JOJOLands. They’re the user of Smooth Operators, and have made history as the first trans Joestar.
