Getting through the Village fight in Resident Evil 4 remake can be brutal, especially if you don’t know where to go. At this point in the game, all you have is your knife, handgun, and a single healing item. So, your first order of business is to even the playing field. Fortunately, there are specific triggers that will cause the fight to end.
We did our testing on Standard difficulty, but it seems like the fight works the same regardless of which level the game is set.
How to end the fight in the Village in Resident Evil 4 remake
There are two ways to end the fight in the Village in Resident Evil 4 remake:
- Kill 15 Ganados.
- Survive four minutes after triggering villager aggro.
Kill 15 Ganados
If you kill 15 Ganados, you’ll trigger the church bell instantly. Unfortunately, you won’t have the necessary ammo on your first playthrough. So, unless you’re very good at Perfect Parries, you’ll need to get the shotgun from the house marked on the map above to end the fight via this route.
Unfortunately, there’s no way to avoid triggering the Chainsaw Man if you decide to end the fight this way. He’ll either spawn when you:
- Enter the house with the shotgun.
- Kill 10 Ganados.
Fortunately, you don’t have to kill him to end the fight, and what you get for doing so isn’t worth the bullets it takes. Instead, I recommend that once you grab the shotgun, jump out the upstairs window and take to the alleys on the outskirts of the village. If you pace yourself right, you can let the Ganados chase you and gather them into a few tight groups. The goal here is to get as many of them to clump up as possible so you can use the shotgun to blast as many heads off as you can per shot.
The biggest mistake you can make in this fight is to enter any buildings (or try to enter one that you can’t). It’s easy to get stuck in one and not make it out since the AI likes to stack up at the entrance points and block your way.
Survive four minutes
While it might be overwhelming at first, it’s not hard to survive the first big fight in Resident Evil 4 remake for four minutes. Once you aggro the crowd, stick to the outskirts of the village and use the multiple looping paths to prevent them from hitting you with their throwing weapons.
To make things easier, stay away from the path in the northeast leading out of the village. If you approach the gate, you’ll trigger the appearance of the Chainsaw Man, and you’ll have to worry about running from him too.
You miss out on any items you’d get from killing the Ganados if you decide to run instead of fight. However, once they head into the church, you can loot the whole village at your leisure.
