Resident Evil 4 Remake Missable Items: What are the Points of No Return?

There are several points of no return in Resident Evil 4 remake after which you can’t return to previous areas. The game does let you backtrack on each map until you progress further in the story, after which you’ll no longer be able to go back to get any items or treasure you’ve missed. So, essentially everything on a whole map is missable in Resident Evil 4 remake once you reach a certain point in the game.

What are the points of no return in Resident Evil 4 remake?

There are four big points of no return in Resident Evil 4 remake:

  • Rescuing Ashley at the end of Chapter 4
  • Entering the Castle in Chapter 6.
  • After the Salazar fight in Chapter 12.
  • When you enter the Sanctuary on the Island in Chapter 16.

Of course, there are also points where you’re temporarily unable to backtrack throughout a region in Resident Evil 4 remake. A few of these are:

  • When Leon is captured at the beginning of Chapter 2
  • After Salazar throws Leon into the mines in the Castle in Chapter 10
  • When Leon is attempting to rescue Ashley from the Lab on the Island in Chapter 13.

However, you eventually escape all these situations, and the region you were in opens back up again.

As a rule, you’ll know a point of no return (permanent or temporary) is coming up if the Merchant says, “Might want to take care of any leftover errands before going this way. Be a shame to live the rest of your life wondering ‘what if’ – am I right?”

What missable items are there in Resident Evil 4 remake

Essentially, any item that you leave behind when you hit one of the three big points of no return is missable. Once you enter a new region, you cannot return to the previous one. So, when you enter the Castle, there’s no going back to the Village, and when you make it to the Island, you can’t return to the Village or the Castle.

However, the Merchant’s inventory never shrinks. Once he has an item available for sale or trade, you can purchase it at any point in the game. So you don’t have to worry about missing any of his items.

Fortunately, even though most of the items in the game are missable, it’s not catastrophic if you miss any of them. Each region has so many treasures and scattered items that you can make up for anything you passed up in a previous one.
