Learning how to parry in Resident Evil 4 remake can prevent a ton of damage, and is key to getting higher-ranked playthroughs. However, it’s not the most intuitive system, and part of it isn’t explained very well. We’ll go over the difference between parries and perfect parries and how to do both below.
How to do parries and perfect parries in Resident Evil 4 remake
To parry an attack in Resident Evil 4 remake, tap L1 or LB as an enemy is swinging at you. However, there’s a wide window for the standard parry, and most players won’t have issues performing one in a pinch without even looking for the prompt.
However, perfect parries are much more useful and more challenging to pull off. To perform a perfect parry in RE4 remake, you need to watch your knife icon in the lower right part of the screen. Look for the knife icon to flash, then the button prompt appears to the left. Hit the parry button right as the prompt appears, and you’ll pull off a perfect parry.
A successful perfect parry in Resident Evil 4 remake will knock a regular enemy down and allow you to follow up with an instant melee kill. This makes it a great way to save ammo. However, it will wear down your knife fast. A better tactic, especially on higher difficulty levels, is to perfect parry an enemy and run past them while they’re writhing on the ground. Parries don’t lower your knife’s condition, so you can do this indefinitely.
