E3 2023 cancelled rumors are continuing to swell as more publishers have confirmed that they will not be attending the revamped summer event this year. On March 28, Ubisoft suddenly cancelled its plans to attend E3 2023, stating that it would be opting to hold a Ubisoft Forward event on June 12. Since then, other developers have stated that they are not attending too. As such, here’s whether E3 2023 has been cancelled.
Has E3 2023 been cancelled?
While there is no official word from E3 2023 organizer Reedpop on whether the event has been cancelled, there’s a good chance that it could be.
Andy Robinson, the owner and editor of VGC, stated in a tweet that he “would not be surprised at all if [E3 2023] is called off this week.” This is despite Reedpop stating to The Verge in February that it E3 2023 would still be happening.
After Ubisoft confirmed that it would not be attending the event, IGN reached out to multiple publishers on their attendance and none of them were able to confirm it. In fact, Sega and Tencent’s Level Infinite verified that they would not be part of E3 2023. And the site reports that more publishers plan to skip E3 2023 but just haven’t made a formal announcement yet.
Furthermore, ReedPop’s president Lance Fensterman will be stepping down in April, and tickets for the public to attend E3 2023 are still not available for purchase despite the event being scheduled on June 13 to June 16. For the years when E3 was still active, many publishers would already have their plans locked in for the event by March.
All this evidence unfortunately points to E3 2023 being cancelled. Considering that Geoff Keighley’s Play Days will be happening at the same time, it’s probable we’ll hear publishers choose to attend this over E3. That said, ReedPop has yet to announce anything but pressure is mounting for further confirmation.
